"Enabling Great Art in Watts' Great Studio"

April 2011

"Enabling Great Art in Watts's Great Studio" - Creswell's tenure in Watts's Great Studio, Limnerslease, Compton.

At the beginning of April 2011 Alexander Creswell moved into the hallowed surroundings of Watts's Great Studio, the first painter to use the space since Watts's death in 1904. This unique space will provide Creswell with the long awaited opportunity to push the boundaries even further in watercolour, in size and intent. Creswell's largest work to date measures 9ft x 5ft; the Great Studio will allow Creswell to go even bigger.

With the reopening of the Watts Gallery on the horizon after a colossal restoration, this is an extremely exciting time to be working in Great Studio.

The Private Exhibition and Sale of Paintings held at Copse Hill in March 2011 contributed towards Watts Gallery's Hope Appeal, and funding for the “Enabling Great Art in Watts’s Great Studio” came directly from sales made at this exhibition.
